Edge of Twilight

Where the earth gives birth to the sky,
Where the sea separates from rock,
She waits for the sun to pass by,
On day the moon now knocks,
But nightitme will have to wait.
She lies on the edge of twilight.

As Searchings Go

The searching’s slow,
As searchings go.
Moonrise does naught to slow
The ebb and flow
When one fails to find
What the shore has left behind.
Though who leaves who
When the waves leave first
And the shore remains to question you.
Alas the land that never goes
Here I stand and I shall see
If the sand shall go before me.
When washed away with the tide, we,
Become who we’re meant to be
And swimming back through the storm
To discover ourseleves waiting ashore.

Observing Tide

An angel looked dismayed as they were walking by,
In the morning light reflected off of pools of blood collecting flys,
Buzzards, vultures, coyotes, and the occasional hyena.
No longer to delay,
Awake another blood-filled day,
Out of the sea; the five heads of the beast were screaming.
No one asked for the heroes,
And thought of them as zeros
While they were fighting the beast that didn’t need exterminating.
Morning came again with the red tide.
So many fallen that should not have died,
From ignorance alone,
The beast called the sea his home.
And so will many more after this reading.
Cheers to the callous fools who have no feeling.
I do not often see red tide retreating.

Where These Waters Lead

Where these waters lead,
It would seem
Today they lead to colder streams.
They’ve more than one destination, I’ll concede,
This just one stop of many
Before we reach the sea.
Today colder streams,
Tomorrow ice-rent seams,
Where these waters become too cold to flow.
In the valley of the moon,
Dawn can’t come too soon,
To free us from our temporary tomb,
And sun shines on more sun-filled shores before we reach the sea.
This is where these waters lead.

Puppy Teeth

My struggle with the darkened arms
Of sleep,
The solstice of suffering.
Sleep holds me here, her black arms betray
A sense of woe and sorrow,
Dreading the hour I awake and abandon
My dreaming.
There, much like suffocating,
Pain is but a memory waiting,
Like so many lost puppies
That have followed me home.
This time a mistake:
I’ve given them names to take,
Sleep is no relief as I do not dream.
The puppies teeth are ships that sink
As my flesh becomes a sea.

Windswept

Windswept I,
Gaze upon an unforgiving sky
Indifferent to me and mine.
It is kind to me,
But not because it cares,
The blue sky apathetic
To the way I stare.
Wind blows,
But does not speak to me
Although I hear its words.
I know,
On the waves of this raucous green sea,
I will remember nothing,
And no one will remember me.

My Lady and Her Bear

My lady fair,
And her bear,
Set to sea last winter.
Cold wind blowing,
Neither of them knowing,
Whither the snow had sent her.
But their picnick at sea,
Gave them such glee
As they cared not to question.
They said “Let it blow!
We care not for snow!
Our boat shall be our bastion!”
Everyday watching ocean I,
Gaze upon the horizon wishing to spy,
My lost love, her bear, my lady so fair.
But remembering her joy in departing,
I cannot help imparting,
My joy to you,
Of our love so true,
That she’d never be truly departing.
