Lost in the Shallows

She seemed to forget something in the shallows
Her hands in cold water
Her feet wade through the waves
So long she spent there
Just off the beach in the autumn surf
And yet still
She could not grasp it
Her reflection
And
Her memory.

Leaving

Farewell to a constellation
Of regret, but mostly memory
And memory cherished.
No night without dreaming
And I dream,
I dream of naught.
No stars without darkness,
No morning I sought.
And to say goodbye to
Friends become family
And family become blood bought.
How quickly I forget
How quickly the memory runs cold and blameless.
How quickly I’m forgot
And we remember that this is meaningless.

She Leaves

You remember her
Looking back but she did not.
Memeory fading.

Puppy Teeth

My struggle with the darkened arms
Of sleep,
The solstice of suffering.
Sleep holds me here, her black arms betray
A sense of woe and sorrow,
Dreading the hour I awake and abandon
My dreaming.
There, much like suffocating,
Pain is but a memory waiting,
Like so many lost puppies
That have followed me home.
This time a mistake:
I’ve given them names to take,
Sleep is no relief as I do not dream.
The puppies teeth are ships that sink
As my flesh becomes a sea.

One More Sunset

Another sunrise, another day
Another chance to stay and say,
One more noon passes by
One more sunset to catch her eye.
She sees the road, the narrow path beyond,
It is just the same as any other dawn.
She wakes from sleep, though no rest found.
Most nights are spent dreaming
Of fears, of paralyzing past.
Memories through the years abound,
But not so many she would like to last.
The sun has set after a day of reviewing these,
She wonders if tonight is the night that she will find peace.

What the Waves Teach

Tiny cracks, tiny fractures in the sand.
Tracks: an arrow, pointing to the culprit.
Impermanence of pain felt by this land,
And with the tide comes memories forfeit.
Into the sunset one or two may go,
Leaving behind a stamp on the day fair,
Revisiting this day later to show,
There are none like it, no, none do compare.
This day and that, like beads on strings, endless.
Are they aware how fragile, made of glass
Are beads on the universes necklace?
Each day adds another that will not last.
Our days: numbered; grains of sand on the beach,
Beside times ocean, we must learn what the waves teach.

The False Comfort of Drowning

Under water all her breathing
Isn’t impossible as it seems. Rings
Out echos from the sown
Unknown borne of the abyssal below.
Then once more to the darkened spires,
Her climb, her flight, her pain inspired.
Descent is this? To the depths?
Sorting through what memory’s kept.
Constantly trying to change inside:
The past; it’s long been fossilized.
So full of sorrow and full of stone,
She discards strength for gills so,
She hopes not for the surface and here,
At the bottom of the ocean it’s quite clear,
That she will never rise again unless,
She can rise to the surface and above this test.
