My Favorite Season

elijah-hail-182443.jpg
I long for the days to grow shorter.
The heat to fade and the cold to grow harsher.
Spring only leads to summer, and fall not close enough,
Throughout the year, too much tangled up stuff.
Give me the storms and rain and snow,
As long as their wind remains cold.
Until the sun grows cold and gives us less light,
I’ll pretend I’m sleeping, I’ll pretend it’s night.

She Contemplates

She is the watchful in the dusk,
While we’re the waiting.
She stands in the forest dark,
While we’re preparing.
A friend of the ravens and the leaves,
Of melting snow and fallen trees.
Patiently we wait for her to awaken the bees.
Sleeping winter wakes
Springs fluttering eyes, their first look take.
And we the waiting
Gather the first flowers her bees pollenate.
While she, watchful,
Of where to send her first rain,
She contemplates.

She Stands

She stands.
Against the wind, the oncoming storm.
She stands.
In place waiting
for the rains to pass.
Patiently.
She knows what lies beyond,
The eye of the storm.
She is not fooled by a false calm.

Hidden Sun

Walking together
Though we find
No clear path
To our feet to bind
Grey skies and sun,
Wind snow and rain
We will be together
We both carry this pain
From time to time looking up
To overcast sky again
We know the sun is there
Not always seen
But there watching
Waiting to show
That under grey skies
There’s still one thing that glows.

Rain?drops

Raindrops.
Falling water.
Raindrops still if from eyes?
Being told this is not allowed,
Raindrops.

An Average Day

The eye opens to the first light of day.
The sky fills with clouds,
And rain falls.
An old man imparts his wisdom,
And a young man learns.
A bear wakes from her slumber.
A mountain bows to the wind.
Earth moves farther ’round the Sun.

The eye opens to the first light of day.
An old man fills with clouds,
And rain falls.
The Sky imparts its’ wisdom.
A Mountain learns.
A bear rises from her slumber,
And a young man bows to the wind.
Earth moves farther ’round the Sun.

An eye closes to the first light of day.
A young man fills with clouds,
And wind blows.
A mountain imparts its’ wisdom,
And a bear learns.
An old man begins his ever-slumber,
And the rain bows to the sky.
Earth moves farther ’round the Sun.

Request of the Sea

image

Darkened sea
Hear my plea,
Allow me safe passage ‘ore thee.
I remember once that we
Were friends
A reason that should change,
I cannot see.
The wind, rain, and waves.
On and on for days.
I have said, hear me say,
That friends we should stay,
Let it not end this way.
A changed mind,
I find.
I miss the days that you were kind.
Tonight I am blind.
I will not see the wave
That sends me to my kind.
Dead man sailing.
At least I know they’ll miss me;
Those I leave behind.
