The Darkness Inside All

I am the face upon the wall.
With no mouth to you I call,
I say once more let shadows conspire!
Put no other memories of yours to fire!
I am the eyes that see you sow
Seeds of of joy where darkness grow.
I am repressed, denied, held down,
I’m beneath the gilded smile, a frown.
A few more days till darkness takes
A chance within you to awake.
Are you strong enough to stand,
To hold up light in an unknown land?
I am here and always will be.
Only time will tell if you surrender to me.

Nihilistic Optimism

Life is pain and then you die.
Why should I bother to even try?
Days pass by quickly,uncaring.
They do not ask how I am fairing.
It makes no difference, this or that.
It won”t take much to see where I’m at,
In the ocean cold.
Slowly sinking, grasping soul.
Treading water just prolongs,
My end, the bottom, where I belong.

But life is joy before you die!
And joy and love! Still we cry.
Something so fickle and sweet as life
Becomes fermented and stale with time.
One should not wish it to be forever
That it should continue, ending never.
We all end up at the bottom it’s true
Before then I’ll be with you,
Spending the happy hours,
Loving, laughing, avoiding sour
Looks and words that would stain
Our souls if from within they came.

Let the day pass by so quickly!
I’ll not be one who, sickly,
Sits and waits and wastes the time,
What little we have, like a slime,
Trapped on the edge of the ocean, not in it,
Not loving life, but afraid of it.
Life is pain and darkness frightening,
The end comes quickly before the ripening.
In this small time, I’ll make the most
Never fearing the inevitable ghost.
No sorrow in death. It is and it must.
Then we live on, after first turning to dust.

The Teeth of Those Who Hunger

The teeth of those who hunger grow,
Mouths outnumber the substance so,
Some of them turn to eating stones.
Some bite others in their death throes.
There is a light in the distance they choose not to see.
Then they contemplate the darkness saying: “How can this be?”.
Dead or living it matters not,
From the tomb, for both, pours rot. A raven points to the gateway,
Leading further down or away?
The light is hazy. Clouded by smoke?
A voice breaks the tortured din. Who spoke?
He says: “I cannot hold this candle for long.
Follow me to the path where you truly belong.”

Requiem to a Hopeful Twilight

A single tear from her soul only
Comes softly with the words “Just hold me”.
That cold summer, drifting, lonely.
I don’t remember what it was that came before.
Preceeding the darkened night,
Being a requiem to a hopeful twilight,
An angels song; a bewitching blight,
Does nothing to lift her from the floor.
There is a silence after her song.
There is the light before the dawn!
There is the hope that she’s forgotten!
These are the dreams that once were trodden.
She survives because she endures.
Now of one thing she’s sure:
Her hopes and dreams are worth the gain,
Worth the work, and all the pain.
She sees darkness itself is to blame,
Her souls tear, an angels song, the same.

The Cloudy Obscurity

xxdownload93
Oh cloudy day,
What can I say?
When will the winds and storms give way?
To make things brighter for another day
Or anothers’ way?
Oh cloudy day,
Come what may.
Oh cloudy day this I plea:
If darkness should overtake me,
If all around, only fog to see,
If the path be
Lost in obscurity,
Give me some small bit of light.
That I may take to flight,
That I may before night.
Oh cloudy day, restore my sight.
Remove my burden and my blight.
Cease your siege and end your fight.

This of That Dark Hill (In the Echo of Yesterday)

image

The light of this new day,
To the horizon shown the way.
Wanting to stay in the shadow
Of yesterday’s final echo.
But moving forward to the bright,
And shining promise, I just might.
Such comfort held by darkness; darkness it is still,
Enervated, grasping for a hold on this dark hill.
No hope for the peak have I.
I’ve seen it and don’t want it. Why try?
Now left in the echo of yesterday,
This of that dark hill is all I’ll say.

Waiting for the Universe to Die

image

She has passed through the gateway,
And she has won herself a shadow.
Through the cosmos that lost day,
In its oceans, in their shallows.
The knowledge there, the thirst to slake.
In her search for solace now alone.
Darkness follows, darkness takes.
There is a chill down in her bones.
A chill that says: “No darkness waits!”.
In these dark days she contemplates,
Her shadow grants her pause.
No waiting darkness, no saving light,
Remembering the shadows cause,
And cursing the gateway of the night,
And its fathomless cosmic beyond.
Temptation and promise of such knowing,
Such as none should know or respond.
She grasps and holds it closer,
Fully aware of the cost imposing.
By now she’s seen a hundred lives,
In the future, a hundred more.
The gates shadow is her soul deprived,
Does she curse that open door?
Outliving the stars themselves
She’ll curse her greatest blunder.
Just you ask her and she’ll tell.
It would have been better were she torn asunder.
Tired of living and praying for death,
Praying for death, though she can never die,
Onward with eternal breath,
With her shadow the ever prying eye.
From that fateful gate the shadow of immortality did rise,
She knew not then the price
With a second chance would despise.
She, forever on the shore of that cosmic ocean lies,
Waiting in the shallows for the universe to die.

This piece is about a cosmic traveler, who discovers a mysterious artifact, represented here by the gate, that grants omniscience and immortality in exchange for her soul. No longer being able to die she wanders the universe watching it slowly decay around her as she waits for the end of all things. Her only hope for rest being that she too will be unmade at the end of time itself.
