An Abandoned Chair

An empty seat, no need for dispair
Though it may happen to be a chair.
That is meant for one to learn in,
Twist and turn and thoughts to burn in.
One may question, one may wonder
How is our future torn asunder?
When there is no one there to learn,
In that chair, to feel concern.
When forgotten is the reason we
Remember the past and all we’ve seen.
It is found abandoned, this empty seat,
And found flatlined is the minds heartbeat.
No need is felt, no drive to know,
Where does the shadow on the future go?
And tragedy will seize the day when an empty chair, in an empty class,
In an empty school, is all of what lasts.

Her Reason Why

Once she had a thought.
Once she had strength,
Once there was a day at length.
And with that thought she,
Tried to escape on her own.
But few are they who can truly leave home.
No real attempt was made,
I’ll tell you why,
Her son gave her reason to try.
And try she does. Against all odds
She’s none the worse for wear.
There isn’t much for these winds and waves that she can prepare.
Forward to the future,
Leaving the past behind,
And abandoning those unkind,
She isn’t likely to quickly change her mind.
Still carrying scars and mending broken wings,
She awakes to a new day and sings.
What is scarred and broken is no burden,
When it’s so bright, what’s behind the next curtain.

A Loss of Sight

I awake with this:
A burden on my eyes;
The weight of tomorrow.
My future sight,
Too young dies.
I cannot see I must borrow.
What I thought I saw was not,
The sight isn’t what I sought,
But the goal of bliss.
There’s no weight,
No burden on these eyes.
A load never meant to carry.
Now to seek only light
And darkness to despise,
My anxiety: another body to bury.

A Suicide of Angels

image

A suicide of angels.
One would from this angle
Wish their eyes were deceiving,
untrustworthy little orbs.
Their ears fearfully confirming
What their eyes see as burning,
But still what their brains cannot absorb.
All the while he is smiling
The one who, from afar, beguiling
Their denial into crying,
Terrifying panic, and insane rancor.
Oh! For the angels that should not have died before!
Then his smile betrays a clue.
This suicide of angels cannot be true!
What horror has been left for me and you?
The damage is done and he knows it.
Perhaps a wound impermanent, but who can close it?
Surely father time has no such tourniquet.
Now there is work to be done, stitches to sew.
What does the future hold? Who can know?
Once healed, these scars will follow us so,
We must do our best,
And learn to let go.
