The sun is too bright for these tired eyes,
This mind too tired for the whys.
An explanation is another day in the sun,
With all this stargazing I long to be done.
Chasing clouds profits nothing but broken dreams.
There’s no shade in a desert stretching as far as the eye can see.
Venturing across hot sands to find more stable bedrock,
To find a place where the mirage is not.

Beneath a thin veil, so barely hidden
Eyes downcast do as they’re bidden.
Question once, question twice,
One thinks once would more than suffice.
But for the inquiry no answers.
Only punishment and shame, equally fickle dancers.
In all this asking, there’s no wondering:”why?”
Should there be a veil for those who haven’t died?
Am I already dead inside?
Why are we punished for asking why?
If you must, then you must go.
I’m sorry I’m here to make it slow,
I know you won’t change your mind so,
You must stay. I must leave.
It’s better this way you see?
It isn’t you it is really me.
Dont ask me to explain.
How can this be what’s best?
Are you sure it’s not a test?
Or are you leaving me deft,
Just like the rest?
You will see one day,
And thank me in your own way.
You will see why I can’t stay.
You will find a brighter day.
A brighter day I will find?
Perhaps a place I can unwind.
Perhaps a place not so unkind.
But I’ve no such place in mind.
She never let him see her cry.
He never let her see him cry.
She never found the reason why.
He never let this pass him by.
