My Face in the Window

sun-de_an-tNvjzxITVeQ-unsplash

Do not look at me through your open window.
Do not gaze upon my flesh.
How many lions, before you, wish to eat me?
Surely do you jest?
Occupy the chair you coward,
Show to me your true face.
But I only need a mirror
A self portrait in its place.
An empty chair,
And on the stairs,
The man who wasn’t there.
You weren’t there again today,
Maybe someday
That will change.
Perhaps someday you’ll go away.

Stains of a Shadow

A shadow holds her back,
One that she held before.
No one can see the stains
Those cold hands leave behind,
But the mirror tells no lies.
At least that’s what she believes.
And at the end of the day
It’s her own faith
That she calls home.
If her reflection tells her anything,
It’s: “Sing no more.”
But at night outside her room
There’s a song I’ve never heard before.

Enter: the Censor

Listen to yourself breathe.
Look outward with glossy stare.
Become the hunted.
Become what you seek.
Then never look into the mirror.

Press eyes into the sieve.
What’s left can only see through filter.
You sought the censor.
You never thought the censor was you.
Now never again look into the mirror.

The Eyes

The eyes within. The eyes without,
The eyes that dwell within me shout:
The walls! The floors! The ceiling! Spies!
The walls surrounding! These mouths they lie!
Once they were without their sight.
Then someone taught them to see. Their blight!
A setting sun on the horizon alights,
The moon, from day, offers no respite
For eyes that should otherwise be dreaming,
In the dark free from paranoia seeming
To take hold all control and stay.
Oh! That the cursed sight of these eyes may
Blink, and from the sun take pause.
Seek the shade, sleep! Break your unwritten laws!
Gaze not back at me reflection!
You ghostly and familiar complection!
When one with his mirror takes to shouting,
It’s too far, he’s taken away laughing.
Not requiring the belief of others to be, the eyes,
From dark corners and darker dreams they, waiting, spy.

Thanks to my brother Jesse for letting me use his art on my blog. 🙂

A Call to Dark

image

A call to dark,
And those found empty.
One cannot impart
What one cannot see.
She finds herself calling
To faces of the unknown,
To the faces of hunger,
To the home within her bones.
All of this and more
Inside a question burning,
A warning, (blessing?)of nevermore.
Her mind, in a skull turning,
The empty, nameless dark still calls
Ignoring her inquiry.
The nameless faces gazes fall
From her own mirror beguiling.
A call to dark,
Herself found empty,
That call that folly answered.
Now gone today
Now none may say,
She is that folly; cancer.

Fires of Conspiracy

From those in power,
We are different.
The smell is sour,
The taste, a bitterent.
The throne ought be mirror,
Not what casts a shadow.
The occupant peers ore’,
Their hardened hearts to harrow.
In furrowed wakes behind,
They planted in the soil
And the dirt that is our minds
Seeds of greed that despoil.
Their labor; our sweat and blood,
Their currency; our souls.
Just one night, a violent flood
To overthrow their thrones.
But will we stand
Against the tide?
Our bloody hands,
Their secrets hide.
No more behind a face so strange,
We’ll find one more familiar,
Shown in the puddled rain
To be one that is similar.
The last dark night, the red dawn shows
Whose hands that did conspire,
Death and greed with war in tow,
In ash recently expired.
From those ashes who’s to say,
What tree we’ll see to grow?
We, the ones to prune today,
Decide beauty or thorn show.
