Across Hot Sands

The sun is too bright for these tired eyes,
This mind too tired for the whys.
An explanation is another day in the sun,
With all this stargazing I long to be done.
Chasing clouds profits nothing but broken dreams.
There’s no shade in a desert stretching as far as the eye can see.
Venturing across hot sands to find more stable bedrock,
To find a place where the mirage is not.

All is Laid to Rest

Once forgotten all is laid
To rest and in the grave.
He profits nothing from the past
There’s nothing there of what lasts.
If it cannot get him through the day
It might as well be locked away.
To be sure there’s beauty there,
Joy and freedom, all but rare,
And mixed up in times shifting sands.
Irretrievable! They’re left to this desolate land!
He awakens the next day none the wiser.
Or is he now he won’t dredge the desert to find her?
I’ll leave that question to philosophers who will,
Debate his morality while sitting on a hill.

Desert Man

The beautiful ones inside him scream,
They wish to escape and to be seen.
Kept deep inside, no longer shown,
We see how sad his soul has grown.
How useless is water in the desert when
Trapped in a bottle that can’t be opened?
