A Cloudy July

A shadow in the wake of thunder at his door.
Thought of this once, not too often before.
Such heavy clouds preceding storms,
In a season where such thoughts form.
Blackened skies and his heart so lightened,
Of the lightning he’s never been frightened.
With open arms he welcomes such as these,
Where they don’t belong in place of summertime breeze.
Much preferred to the bright summer sun
His heart gladdened by what the grey sky won.
In the peace before the storm he sighs,
And prays for more Julys with grey skies.

Before Your Time

image

I gave you wings and then you died,
Without having a chance to fly.
The hand that stares into the sky,
While life is slowly passing by.
As a slowly sinking ship in the rain,
Above and below the waters prevent gain,
Passing no doors to escape pain.
Closed doors, closed windows, all the same.
You will never know the clouds,
From behind that darkened shroud.
You’ll won’t feel the sun on your face, above the ground.
Six feet under, listening for the sound,
Of the final bells, calling you home.
There, wait for me while I bury your bones.
You first, but soon I’ll join your soul,
After my work done and I’ve paid my toll.

What Fate Shall Bring

image

She and I
We never learned to fly,
With angels above in clouds
Riding the winds up high.
There was once an attempt to do so.
Inhospitable she found the cold,
We left the angels to their shroud,
And left for what home below
Remained for us. Such as we
Were destined to be.
Such things are in our nature.
What fate shall bring,
C’est la vie,
Until we meet our maker.
