The Plight of Penguins

Aimlessly we are marching towards the sea.
Forcing luck, we say we’re bound to blue skies.
We’re told there’s no ocean to hear our plea,
Vehemently we strain our wings to fly.
Skies above: the opposite of shelter.
What’s left blue, now grey; a common constant.
“At least no rain!” says snow in mock laughter.
We gather against the raging onset.
A killing edge formed between tide and shore.
We are many swallowed and few returned.
They are waiting for us, whom we adore,
There are mistakes some fear we can’t unlearn.
In spite of our current plight, we press on,
Surviving each day till the next new dawn.

As Searchings Go

The searching’s slow,
As searchings go.
Moonrise does naught to slow
The ebb and flow
When one fails to find
What the shore has left behind.
Though who leaves who
When the waves leave first
And the shore remains to question you.
Alas the land that never goes
Here I stand and I shall see
If the sand shall go before me.
When washed away with the tide, we,
Become who we’re meant to be
And swimming back through the storm
To discover ourseleves waiting ashore.

Pawn

One or two forward,
Can’t move as far as others,
And become the best.

Shadows in Colds Absence Make

A morning sun swallows whole cold abyss.
Out of sunrise crawls forth another day.
Shadows in colds absence make way for this,
This place in time where playful daylight stays.
An eater of days gives birth to new dawn.
Its digestion is the passing of time,
And where once was silence there now is song.
Each days end, and I’ve heard too many, chimes.
Days pass, and I do not grow so tired,
That I may not rise and hold close each piece
Of my heart, and do so ’till expired.
Distant conclusion with so long a lease.
Devoured time and light and day now brings,
Value and reasons for my heart to sing.

To Fear Change

I am the only one here
It is obvious others have gone on before me,
I’m sure more will follow.
I am alone.
However a lonely lie I do repeat
You cannot convince me otherwise.
I fall,
And upon climbing back up from the valley
The echo of a lonely lie calls back from afar.
The path is barren.
I descend into fog for fear of reaching the summit.

Continued Dream

Waters carry me past winter,
Here allow me to sleep.
With no veil, these tired eyes pried open
Then forced closed on what they keep.
If we see nightmares in the day,
Are we really asleep?
Floating through what I once thought to be a stream,
Shocked to learn it a river,
What I thought was spring,
Really was the end of summer.
My eyes closed, am I alone in this stream?
Maybe yes. I’ll continue to dream.

Wings

Wings. Taken to flight,
Vessels find another way.
Quickly travel home.
