An Ending Day

When the darkness falls and now is the time,
And hours of night become twelve and long.
What is mine is yours and yours is now mine.
Who can claim the moon, her light, and sad song?
Night cannot tell what’s you and what is me.
Only sunshine, daylight and those in the midst.
I and you and after dawn, we three.
Knowing then, after day, comes the nights mist.
Trailing behind us is the third: the moon.
Waiting to pull us back to her too soon.
